2015 "Parcours modifié"
Titre de l'exposition : " Parcours modifié "
À travers les œuvres que je présente dans cette exposition, j’embrasse la perspective de personnages au parcours marqué par un corps modifié. Modification intra-utérine, traumatisme, accident, maladie...? Quelle qu’en soit la source, c’est la matière corporelle (trans/dé)formée de manière irréversible qui dicte ce parcours atypique. S'en suit une situation de handicap plus ou moins apparente qui entraîne une perception de soi à indice variable. Les attitudes d’autrui face à cette situation sont aussi très diverses. Et je me plais à représenter des êtres dont la modification du corps leur trace, chaque jour, un parcours jonché d'obstacles que la société leur impose.
Bien que nos sociétés occidentales évoluent, le regard, les perceptions et les mots choisis dans les interactions continuent de surprendre les personnes visées. Je pense à Charlotte de Vilmorin, auteure du livre « Ne dites pas à ma mère que je suis handicapée, elle me croit trapéziste dans un cirque ». Elle raconte qu'au primaire, le professeur avait demandé aux élèves : « Combien sommes-nous dans la classe ?» Et une élève de répondre: « 23, plus Charlotte! » Charlotte qui circule en fauteuil roulant depuis toujours, ne s'était jusqu’alors jamais sentie handicapée par son état. En quelques mots, on venait de lui dire toute sa différence!
L'inclusion conservera toujours certaines limites et, à mon avis, c'est tant mieux! En effet, c’est ainsi que le caractère marginal, la beauté inédite et le potentiel singulier que recèlent certains handicaps doivent se définir avec assurance et conviction.
Title of the exhibition: "Modified Course"
Through out the body of work that I am presenting in this exhibition, I embrace the perspective of characters with a journey marked by their modified bodies. What ever the cause may be: intra-uterine trauma, accident, illness ...? It is the (trans/de)formed body that dictates the unusual path. And with it comes the handicapped status, more or less apparent, which leads to an ever fluctuating self-estime. Reactions of strangers towards that situation are also very diverse. In this serie, I have enjoyed depicting those singular beings, living with a modified body and all the obstacles they are facing in society.
Although western societies are showing progress on this issue, perceptions and words used towards a disabled person in every day interactions, are still surprising at times. I am thinking of Charlotte de Vilmorin, the author of “Ne dites pas à ma mère que je suis handicapée, elle me croit trapéziste dans un cirque'' (Don’t tell my mother that I am a handicapped, she believes I am a trapeze artist in a circus, personal translation). In her book, she recalls a moment at the elementary school where the teacher asked the students “how many are we in this class?”. One of them answered: “23, plus Charlotte!”
Charlotte, who had been in a wheelchair all her life, had never been aware of her handicap. In just a few words, she understood she was different.
Inclusion will always have its limits, and it is not all bad! It has the power of letting the unusual beauty, the eccentric nature and the singular potential of the disabled out to the world, with conviction.
展示会の題名：修正されたコース
この展示会の一連の作品では、修正された体でたどった旅路を持つそれぞれの個人のそれぞれの視点に対する包容を表現しています。
子宮内、外傷、事故、病気...等、原因は何であれ、変換または変形された体が非通常な道のりを決定するのです。
多かれ少なかれ、ハンディーキャップというステイタスが自尊心を常に一進一退させる事は明らかです。そして、これに対する他人のリアクションはまさに多様です。
このシリーズでは、これらの修正された体で生活する人々、そして彼らが社会で直面するすべての障害を描きました。
西洋社会は、この問題についてかなり向上を見せていますが、日常生活における身体障害者に対しての認識と彼らに対して使われる言葉には、時としてまだ驚かされます。
私は、＜“Ne dites pas à ma mère que je suis handicapée, elle me croit trapéziste dans un cirque'' (私が障害者だと母に言わないで。母は私がサーカス団のブランコ曲芸師だと信じているんです)＞の著者であるCharlotte de Vilmorin（シャルロット・ドゥ・ヴィルモリン）を思い浮かべます。
この本の中で彼女は、小学生時代に先生が生徒達に「このクラスには何人いますか？」と聞き、一人の生徒が「23人とシャルロットです！」と答えたことを回想しています。シャルロットは常に車椅子で生活していましたが、自分が障害者と思ったことはその時まで一度もありませんでした。でも、その会話によって、彼女は自分が人とは違うのだということを理解したのです。
インクルージョンには常に限界があります。でも私はそれがすべて悪いわけではないと思うのです。そして、これこそが、非通常の美しさ、一風変わった性質、障害者特有の可能性を信念を持って世界に羽ばたかせる力を持つものなのです。
